Mobile car key service
Most vehicles built in the last 25 years use a key with a transponder chip, and the car won't start unless the chip is programmed to it. That's why a hardware-store copy turns the ignition but the engine won't fire. We carry key blanks, remotes and programming equipment in our service vehicle, so for many makes and models we can cut and program the key on site. Your car doesn't need to be towed.
Keys we work with
- Standard and high-security cut keys, including laser-cut (sidewinder) keys.
- Transponder keys with a chip in the head.
- Remote head keys and flip keys that combine the key and the lock and unlock buttons.
- Smart keys and push-to-start fobs.
- Replacement remotes and shells when the buttons or case wear out but the electronics are fine.
Some newer vehicles, especially certain European models, need dealer-only access to program a key. If yours is one of them, we'll tell you up front instead of wasting your time.
All keys lost vs. adding a spare
Making a spare while you still have a working key is almost always simpler and cheaper than replacing every key after they're all lost. If you're down to one key, now is a good time to get a second made. If you've already lost them all, we can still help with many vehicles. We'll need the year, make, model and usually the VIN.
What to have ready
For security reasons, we make keys only for the owner or an authorized driver. Have your photo ID and the vehicle's registration or title handy. If the vehicle is financed or registered to a business, bring whatever shows you're authorized to use it.
Ignition trouble
If the key won't turn, is stuck in the ignition, or broke off inside, call us. Worn keys and ignition cylinders are common, and a fresh key cut to the correct code can sometimes fix the problem without replacing parts.
Frequently asked questions
Can you program a key for my car without the dealer?
For many makes and models, yes. We cut and program on site. A few newer vehicles require dealer-only access, and we'll tell you up front if yours is one of them.
I lost every key to my car. Can you still make one?
In many cases, yes. Have your photo ID, registration or title, and the VIN ready, and call us with the year, make and model.
Why won't my copied key start the car?
Most modern keys have a transponder chip that must be programmed to the vehicle. A key that's only cut will turn the ignition, but the car won't start.
Can you replace a broken key fob shell?
Often, yes. If the electronics still work and only the case or buttons are worn, a new shell can be the cheapest fix. Call us to check your model.
